2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L

What’s New For 2023: Jeep Cherokee?

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee selection is being drastically simplified. For this model year, there will only be the Trailhawk and the new Altitude Lux 4×4.

Gloss black accents can be seen on the grille, body trim, and badging of the Cherokee Altitude Lux 4×4. The variant comes with 17-inch gloss black wheels, although 18-inch wheels are also available.

Inside, the Altitude Lux comes with black Nappa leather upholstery and Piano Black trim. The heated steering wheel and seats are standard. It has an 8.4-inch infotainment display with navigation. Safety technology includes adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and parallel and perpendicular parking assistance.

The only engine option is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 180 horsepower (134 kilowatts) and 171 lb-ft (232 Newton-meters). A nine-speed automatic transmission is connected to it. The model has the Jeep Selec-Terrain traction control system with Auto, Snow, Sport, and Sand/Mud modes.

Jeep is also making some upgrades to the 2023 Cherokee Trailhawk. It now comes with automatic high beams, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a security alarm, and a universal garage door opener. Inside, there’s an 8.4-inch infotainment system with navigation. Adaptive cruise control and parking assist are also among the improvements.

The Trailhawk uses a 270-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. (201 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). It also has a nine-speed automatic but gets a Rock drive mode.

The revised lineup means the Latitude Lux, X, and Limited grades are no longer available. These changes come just a year after Jeep revamped the Cherokee lineup for the 2022 model year. At that time, it introduced the Model X and discontinued the Altitude, Freedom, and 80th Anniversary variants.

The current generation of Cherokee is reportedly nearing its end. The new one is bigger than the existing model. There would be an electrified transmission.

2023 JEEP CHEROKEE SPECS

The Jeep Cherokee uses a 2.4-liter inline engine with a capacity of 180 hp for the Altitude Lux configuration, but the 2.0-liter engine with a capacity of 270 hp. With 295 lb-ft of torque for the Trailhawk off-road offering. Both are mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and come standard with all-wheel drive. While we haven’t yet tested either transmission, its noisy 2.0-liter is one horsepower shy of the V-6 offered in last year’s Jeep Cherokee. As you would expect from a Jeep, the Cherokee rides with a solid feel that makes it feel bigger than its competitors. A relatively stiff suspension setup controls body roll in corners without compromising ride quality. Bumps are absorbed without much reverberation, and the Jeep never floats on the highway. We want the steering to provide more road feedback, but it’s well-weighted and accurate. A firm brake pedal breeds composure in panic braking scenarios, and the Cherokee’s 70 mph to zero emergency braking performance is average for its class.

THE PAYLOAD AND TOWING CAPACITY OF THE 2023 JEEP CHEROKEE

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee has a maximum towing capacity of 4,000 pounds for Trailhawk models with the optional Trailer Tow Group equipment package. That’s 500 pounds less than last year’s Cherokee, whose V-6 transmission had a slight towing advantage. That’s still a huge advantage over rivals like the Volkswagen Tiguan, Honda CR-V, and Mazda CX-5. The 2023 Jeep Cherokee compact crossover has a higher tow rating than larger SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Edge.

CONNECTIVITY AND INFOTAINMENT OF THE 2023 JEEP CHEROKEE

Jeep’s available Uconnect infotainment system is one of the best in the business, with curated menus and rich features. The standard touchscreen has a diagonal of 8.4 inches. Starting with the Latitude Plus trim, each model adds two USB ports on the rear of the center console for use by back-seat passengers. Every Cherokee features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a subscription Wi-Fi hotspot is available.
