2023 DODGE HORNET – EVERYTHING YOU NEED

Dodge is well known for building powerful muscle cars and continuing to sell vintage cars. In 2023, it reveals neither: the Dodge Hornet is an all-new SUV and perhaps the brand’s most important vehicle in years. The Hornet is packed with Dodge-y details, finally allowing the brand to compete in the popular small SUV segment. Hornet is a historical name; it was attached to a full-size Hudson in the 1950s, an AMC small car in the 1970s, and a 2006 Dodge concept.
Every 2023 Hornet is equipped with a configurable 12.3-inch digital display and a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The touchscreen runs on an Android-based user interface. It is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa wireless features. Its Bluetooth capability allows you to pair two phones at the same time. In addition to the USB ports in the front row, a wireless charger is available. High-end models get a Harman Kardon premium audio system with 14 speakers.

2023 DODGE HORNET STYLING & INTERIOR FEATURES

Conceal the badge on the steering wheel, and you may struggle to tell the difference between the Dodge Hornet and its Alfa Romeo Tonale sibling. Aside from different hanging vents, some trim, and digital graphics, they’re identical, and that’s okay.
The cabin has a traditional sporty character compared to other cars focusing more on large touchscreens. All Hornets have a sensibly sized 10.25-inch dash-mounted touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster to keep things technologically relevant. Fortunately, plenty of physical buttons for climate control and driving modes exist. They are less distracting than digging through on-screen menus.
Outward visibility for the road ahead is acceptable. The front seats provide enough lateral support with large side bolsters. In Plus trim, they’re covered in bright perforated leather. If you add the optional Track Pack, they turn into grippy Alcantara with a flash of red under the perforations. The quality of materials is better than other SUVs in this class, with softer-to-the-touch surfaces and a solid build.
The rear seats can accommodate medium-sized adults with ample headroom and plenty of legroom and legroom. Behind the seats, the Dodge Hornet GT can hold up to 27 cubic feet of cargo, which is significant for its class and is helped by a substantial underfloor bin. The R/T’s capacity drops to 22.9 cubic feet, which is about average.
On the road, the Hornet rides noticeably harder than other SUVs. That’s not surprising, given its sportier suspension setup. You’ll feel minor to moderate bumps and experience side-to-side jostling. Still, they won’t be intrusive or problematic.

2023 DODGE HORNET SPECS

Most other tiny crossovers prioritize efficiency over performance. For example, look at the modest capacity of the Honda HR-V (158 hp) and Toyota Corolla Cross (169 hp). But credit to Dodge for maintaining the Hornet’s performance-oriented image. The Dodge GT is powered by a four-cylinder engine, 2.0-liter turbocharged, producing 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque for the base trim. That’s quite a lot for a small SUV, and it is comparable to what you get from performance hatches like the Volkswagen GTI.
If you want a more reliable bet for traffic light dominance, wait a little longer for the Hornet R/T. Instead, the R/T gets a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine. While that doesn’t sound impressive, the R/T hybrid component gives this Hornet some serious attention.
The combined output of the engine and electric motor is 288 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The Hornet R/T uses a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, according to Dodge, for a 60 mph time of 5.6 seconds. However, that’s if you use the PowerShot feature, temporarily giving the Hornet an extra 30 hp. Dodge says that without the PowerShot, the R/T’s 0-60 mph time is about 7.1 seconds.
The R/T isn’t just about lightning-fast wheel mileage, though. It is also the more practical of the two transmissions. The 15.5kWh battery pack is expected to provide more than 30 miles of range for the all-electric EV on a full charge. Expect it to take around 2.5 hours to recharge using a Level 2 charger.
